Roth Invasion - Part 1

They came. They saw.  They conquered! The entire Roth clan arrived in Anchorage last Tuesday evening and stayed for the week.  We had a FULL house with Gary, Marj, Darin, Emily, Melanie and Ben [although Gary and Marj opted to stay in a hotel.]  Other than the first day, we had the most amazing weather while they were up here - sunny and in the 60s to 70s.  Alex and I both had a long weekend due to Memorial Day so we laid low until Friday.

Friday afternoon, we drove up to the Glen Alps trail head [home of Flattop Mountain, Powerline Trail and the Anchorage viewpoint.]  We started off trying to walk a relatively easy path but there was still quite a bit of snow on it which was slushy/slick to walk through so some of them continued on while Gary, Darin and I walked back to a bench looking out over the water and downtown Anchorage.  We soaked up the sun and could partially see the outline of McKinley.

Later that same afternoon, we were looking to do a more challenging hike so Alex, Emily, Melanie, Ben and I drove down to Bird Ridge.  We hiked up at least half way and called it good by enjoying the scenery with a beer!  The mosquitoes were out in full force that afternoon and were eating us alive every time we stopped...

That evening we had a steak and Alaskan king crab cookout.  It was a.ma.zing.  It was such a beautiful night we sat on the deck and ate to our heart's content!  While we haven't had it too many times, crab has quickly become a favorite plus it's super easy to prepare.

Whew that was a busy day looking back!  Stay tuned for our excursion with the Kenai Fjords Tours out of Seward.
