Rafting on Portage Creek
How is it possibly August already?! It seems like summer JUST started. Last weekend, another Army dentist and his wife invited us to go on an overnight rafting trip with them. Alex had gone out with him a few weeks before and it sounded like a fun way to get out of the house. The float started where Portage Lake meets Portage Creek, which is 45 minutes south of Anchorage. Once we got the raft loaded with 4 people, 4 dogs and all our camping gear we took off on the 6 mile float. Overall, the float takes about 3 hours but we stopped about halfway in on a secluded sand bar to set up camp. It was a gorgeous evening to relax around the fire and have a few beverages. The next morning they attempted salmon fishing but the fish weren't running by our camp site. We then packed up and finished our float. The float was a great way to enjoy nature without having to hike/climb for once :)
